List of Afghanistan T20I cricketers

Since their first match in 2010, thirteen players have represented the Afghanistan national cricket team in eight Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.[1] A Twenty20 International is an international cricket match between two representative teams, each having T20I status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and is played under the rules of Twenty20 cricket.[2]

The Afghanistan Cricket Federation was formed in 1995, but cricket was banned by the Taliban until 2000.[3][4] When the ban was lifted, the team experienced a "meteoric rise through international cricket".[5] They were admitted to the ICC as an affiliate member in 2001, and in 2006 played and beat the Marylebone Cricket Club in Mumbai. Later in 2006 they toured England, winning six out of seven matches against county second XI teams.[6] Their first T20I was the second match of the Sri Lanka Associates T20 Series against Ireland, which they lost by five wickets.[7]

In total, Afghanistan have played eight T20Is.[7] Eight Afghan players have taken part in all eight matches: Hameed Hassan, Karim Sadiq, Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Raees Ahmadzai, Samiullah Shenwari, Shapoor Zadran and captain Nawroz Mangal.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Noor Ali, who has played in seven of the country's T20I fixtures, is the leading run-scorer with 199 runs,[15] whereas Raees Ahmadzai has the highest batting average.[9] Mohammad Shahzad's score of 65, made against Ireland in 2010, is the highest total by an Afghan batsman in T20I cricket.[12] Hameed Hasan has claimed more wickets in T20I matches than any other Afghan, having taken 14.[8]

This list includes all players who have played at least one T20I match and is initially arranged in the order of debut appearance. Where more than one player won their first caps in the same match, those players are initially listed alphabetically by their last name at the time of debut.
